Safe Work Procedures, Risk Assessments & Competency Based Training

Safe-work Procedures must be written for all procedures performed within Laboratories; these must clearly state the hazards and risks involved with the procedure and precautions that need to be taken in order to perform the procedure and reduce its risks. .

In addition to Safe Work Procedures, training records must also be kept for all procedures, these must state that a staff or student has demonstrated competency to the Laboratory Supervisor or their delegate in the procedure. Staff and Students must be deemed competent before they can perform the procedure on their own.

A template is available to help staff write Safe Work Procedures for their areas, a training form is also included in the template.
